We suggest you remove this with hand-hot water and detergent (not soap) in the first wash, followed by a rub dry or gentle tumble dry, and we suggest doing this after making your garment, as that will cause the yarn to bloom and give a denser, fluffier, garment. This is how designer garments are processed, just before sending to the stores. This wash and dry will tend to change the garment dimensions though, so we also recommend making a test swatch and washing and drying that first, in the same way, to see what happens. After saying all that, many customers prefer to wash before knitting, it is up to you :-) Finally, the amount of oil, and the effect of washing, varies with yarn of course, silk yarns have little oil and change little on washing for example.
